Shaun Whatling appointed Chief Executive of Redmandarin

3 July 2007: Strategic sponsorship consultancy Redmandarin today announced the appointment of Shaun Whatling as Chief Executive as Sally Hancock, founder and formerly Chief Executive of Redmandarin takes on the role of London 2012 Partnership Director at Lloyds TSB.

Whatling has been on the Redmandarin Board for 18 months and will take up his position alongside Chris Roe, Chief Operating Officer, who has been with Redmandarin since its creation in 1999.

Redmandarin’s focus is to enable senior management teams to make strategic decisions around sponsorship investment, and make sponsorship accountable for meeting business objectives. It has consulted for many the world’s largest and most respected brands, with current clients including Sony Ericsson, SABMiller, Akzo Nobel and Deutsche Telekom on an international basis. The company is also a long-term roster agency to Lloyds TSB in the UK.

Sally will continue to provide support to Redmandarin one day a week, enabling the business to draw upon her strategic experience and business contacts.

Shaun Whatling : “When Sally and Chris created Redmandarin, there was a clear need for a consultancy which professionalised sponsorship’s application and evaluation and we’re still one of very few agencies globally who occupy that space. I see my role now as leveraging the immense value of our brand, as well as Redmandarin’s IP within sponsorship. I see us taking a less modest, and more assertive stance on our own strengths.”

Chris Roe: “We’re entering a new phase as a business and Shaun has the right skillset for the task. Although we’ll miss Sally’s input on a day to day basis, the value of Redmandarin derives from our collective international experience in sponsorship, and the unique blend of management consultancy, consumer insight, brand consultancy and business process which we offer – and that remains unchanged.”

Sally Hancock: “I’m delighted that Shaun is taking over as Chief Executive. He brings over 20 years of brand, agency and rights holder experience to the business which combined with his vision for the business and its potential will build on the ambition that Chris and I had at the outset of creating the McKinsey of sponsorship.”

Nigel Gilbert, Head of Group Marketing for Lloyds TSB: “Redmandarin will continue in their role with our business and as one of our long-term roster agencies. The strategic approach they take has resulted in a clear framework for us jointly to create solutions to the objectives and challenges unique to our business, and the value of Redmandarin, and their associate agency Helios Partners, will remain, given their unique approach and experience”
